Get out and enjoy fall and Halloween fun with your kids without spending a lot of money! Here’s a list of free things to do in October!
Please note that there are LOADS of trunk or treat events in the area and most have free admission. So I did NOT include them all here. (I’ll have that list soon!)
Scarecrows at Peddler’s Village
When: Now through October 26
Where: Routes 202 and 263, Lahaska
Peddler’s Village offers several ways to celebrate Halloween and fall. Visit any day through October 26 to see the scarecrows throughout the Village. While you’ll likely be tempted to do some shopping or get a bite to eat, it’s totally free to just walk around.
Tip: France’s Best Antique store is about 10 minutes away and there are sculptures all around outside that are so fun for kids to walk through and take pictures among. (Also free!)
Story Time with “Auntie Rachael” at Barnes & Noble
When: Sundays at 11 a.m.
Where: 210 Commerce Boulevard, Fairless Hills
Bring the kids for this free weekly event! The fall theme began September 6. Check Instagram each week to see the stories that will be read.
Fall Lil Sprouts Shake & Stretch Yoga at Shady Brook Farm
When: Tuesdays through November 10 at 11 a.m.
Where: 931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley
Atlas Yoga is back at Shady Brook with a free program for preschool age children where they’ll move their bodies, stretch, breathe, and learn about senses and emotions.
Fall Lil Sprouts Tune Time with Miss Sally at Shady Brook Farm
When: Wednesdays through November 11 at 11 a.m.
Where: 931 Stony Hill Road, Yardlley
Music will be on the patio stage or in the barn depending on the weather. Wear Halloween costumes on October 28! Free class.
Falls Township Food Truck Festival and Touch a Truck Event
When: Friday, September 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, September 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Falls Township Community Park, 9050 Mill Creek Road, Levittown
Great annual event featuring pay-as-you-go food trucks and a beer garden Friday night as well as a variety of free children’s activities and fireworks at dusk! On Saturday, kids can climb and explore a bunch of fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, and other work trucks. There will also be bounce houses and other fun.
Yardley Harvest Day
When: Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Downtown Yardley
Community family event featuring crafters, artisans, local businesses and more! While to vendors are selling their goods, admission is free and there are always a variety of free crafts and activities throughout for kids.
Harvest Festival
When: Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Rain date is Sunday)
Where: Lower Makefield Shopping Center, 700 Stony Hill Road, Yardley
Free family event for the family with free pumpkins for kids, pumpkin decorating, crafts, games, face painting, and free samples from select merchants. Costumes welcome!
Lower Bucks Halloween Tour
When: Coming soon through November 1 from dusk til 10 p.m.
Where: Select houses in Bucks County
Visit the Facebook group The Lower Bucks Holiday Tour to view different routes (with approx. 100 spooky houses total) that have been planned out for different areas in Bucks County. There are links and QR codes so that it’ll give you directions to follow via your phone!
Light Up 394

Where: 394 Hidden Oaks Drive, Yardley
Light Up 394 is always a favorite for us! Their entire front yard and driveway is covered in a just spooky enough display that is so fun to walk through with the kids.
Nightmares on Lower Orchard Drive – Opening Night hasn’t been posted yet
When: Daily from dusk to 10 p.m. from your car, walk thru open Friday through Sunday
Where: 72 Lower Orchard Drive, Levittown
Awesome scary home display that you can either view from your car or get out and walk around.
Styer Orchard
When: Daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Check Facebook for any changes.)
Where: 97 Styers Lane, Langhorne
If you’re looking for a farm experience without the frills, head to Styers. You can pick apples or pumpkins, take a hayride, shop their huge variety of pumpkin and squash … and you only pay for what you bring home. Admission and rides are free. This is also a great spot if you want to take some pictures without paying admission like so many of the other farms nearby. Styers is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Terhune Orchards
When: Weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton
While they have live music, pony rides, pumpkin painting and more on the weekends, you CAN visit the market and see the animals and play area during the week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There’s also pumpkin and apple picking (very limited this year because of the frost), but you’ll need to pay for that.
Lower Makefield Parks and Rec Halloween Monster Mash
When: Friday, October 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: 1550 Oxford Valley Road, Yardley
Costume contest, music, crafts, games and pumpkin patch! Free entry.
Home Depot Kids Workshop
When: October 3 and November 7 at 9 a.m.
Where: Various locations (Oxford Valley is one!)
Hands-on DIY projects for kids where everything is included and you can either take home or join the workshop in the store. Register online first but also plan to arrive as close to start as you can as they do sometimes run out. October’s project is a witch candy box and November’s in a dump truck. These are high quality crafts that typically include wood and using real tools.
Halloween LEGO Build at Barnes & Noble
When: October 9 – October 11
Where: Select stores (Neshaminy and Oxford Valley are participating!)
Visit the store for a free Halloween-themed LEGO build! Costumes optional. Contact the store to ask about details and reservations as it seems days/times vary by store. Neshaminy lists their event on 10/10 at 2 p.m. Oxford Valley is 10/10 at noon. Plymouth Meeting is 10/9 at 7 p.m.
YMCA Boo Bash + Trunk or Treat
When: Friday, October 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Fairless Hills, Doylestown and Quakertown locations
Free community event with trick or treating, crafts, games, and more! Open to the public.F
Historic Bristol Day
When: Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Bristol Borough
Enjoy live music and other forms of entertainment throughout the day. Be sure to visit the Kids’ Area on Mulberry Street for hands-on activities, games, crafts and more. There’s also a petting zoo!
Upper Southampton Halloween Pumpkin Mash
When: Saturday, October 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 1255 2nd Street Pike, Southampton
Hayrides, face painting, pumpkin painting, sand art, music, games and more! Come in costume and be sure to check out the creepy crawly bug exhibit.
The Shops at Valley Square Trick or Treat
When: Saturday, October 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Route 611 and Street Road, Warrington
Trick or treat at participating stores. There will also be music, bounce houses, face painting, a petting zoo, glitter tattoos, balloon art, and entertainment from Go with Yo Yo! There will be FREE hot chocolate from Travelin’ Tom’s (plus pay-as-you-go food trucks.)
Halloween with the Horses hosted by Warriors Within
When: Waiting on info for this year!
Where: 120 Cowpath Road, Telford
Enjoy a bit of Halloween fun while you visit with the horses! This is a free event, though donations are appreciated. There are also 50/50 raffles. Lawn games, refreshments, loot bags for the first 40 kids. Pony rides from 11 to 2.
Tricks and Treats at Pennsbury Manor
When: Sunday, October 25 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: 400 Pennsbury Memorial Road, Morrisville
Kids can trick or treat around the site, learn about history and even sit in on a “witch trial.” Help press cider, see animals, enjoy fall crafts, games, and more. Free admission!
Trunk or Treat at Calvary Bristol
When: Sunday, October 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 250 Green Lane, Bristol
Come in costume for trick or treat. There will be firetrucks, hayrides, puppets! Free event.
Halloween Activities at Bucks County Libraries
Check out the Bucks County Free Library website to view the calendar of events – all free!
I spotted a Halloween Storytime and Parade at the Warminster library on October 29 at 10:30, Halloween storytime at the Southampton library on October 30 at 10:30, Costume Party at the Langhorne library on October 30 at 11, Halloween Storytime at the Quakertown library on October 31 at 10 and crafts at 2, and pumpkin painting at the Warminster library on October 31 at 10:30.
Trick or Treat at the Trenton Thunder BallPark
When: Thursday, October 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. (free timed tickets required)
Where: 1 Thunder Road, Trenton
Families are invited to trick or treat through the luxury suites, which are all decorated for the holiday! There are typically some other games and giveaways, they play a Halloween movie on the big screen, and you can purchase food if you like.
Croydon Haunted Hollows presents The Hollows Files: Cold Cases of the Unknown
When: Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (sensory friendly experiences available Friday from 5-6 and Saturday 4-6)
Where: 507 Girard Avenue, Croydon
50 volunteers put on a good old fashioned scary haunted Halloween walk-through experience. (Wheelchair accessible too!) Candy will be handed out. Come in costume! Free photo booth too!
Halloween Spooktacular at New Jersey State Museum
When: Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 205 West State Street, Trenton
Bring the kids in costume for the museum’s annual trick or treat parade on the front lawn. Trick or treating starts at 11 and lasts until the candy is gone! In the Riverview Court, kids an play games, make crafts, and go on a Boo Hunt around the museum to earn a prize. Remember to pick up a discount coupon for any show in the Planetarium. Event is rain or shine.
Canal-O-Ween in Yardley
When: Sunday, October 25 through October 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: N. Edgewater Ave/Canal Towpath between Fuld Ave and Afton Ave. Free parking is available on the corner of Fuld and Morgan Ave. If you’d like to take park in the Carve-O-Thon, that takes place on October 25 from noon to 3 p.m.
Take a walk along the canal while viewing hundreds of carved pumpkins! Highly recommend going to dinner at one of Yardley’s great restaurants on Main Street before or after. We like to have an early dinner and then go right as it’s getting dark at 6. You get to see the pumpkins while there is still a bit of light walking one way, and then in darkness on the walk back.
